South Windsor Community Foundation Awards $6,000 in Grants

Seven organizations receive grants.

The South Windsor Community Foundation has awarded $6,000 in grants from its Rays of Hope Fund to benefit South Windsor residents.

The recipients are the South Windsor Junior Women’s Club, KIDSPACE Adaptive Play & Wellness, FISH of South Windsor (Friends in Service Here), South Windsor Voices II, Monday Night Social Club, the South Windsor Public Library, and Autism Families of Connecticut.

"It is wonderful to be able to provide these grants to such deserving organizations. They seek to improve the quality of life in South Windsor for residents of all ages, said Jan Snyder, president of the foundation. “I want to thank all those who so generously made contributions to make it possible.”

The grants will help with expenses for projects and programs for all ages. Preschoolers will learn personal safety skills. Local kids needing aid will attend a sensory play gym for special needs children. Free transportation is provided to medical appointments for local residents. A new book of short stories by former and current residents will be published. There will be special social activities for young adults with special needs. The winner of the 2013 South Windsor Spelling Bee will be able to attend the National Scripts Spelling Bee. South Windsor children with Autism Spectrum Disorders will receive assistance to attend special gym and sports programs.

The Foundation gives out grants twice a year to a variety of groups. A few of the previous beneficiaries range from the South Windsor Haiti School, My Friends Place (Boundless Playground) to the South Windsor Walk and Wheel Ways.

The Community Foundation was established in 2003 to support organizations with educational, social, cultural and recreational programs that benefit our community. Each September, the South Windsor Education Fund program has sponsored the Longest Dinner Table to raise money for public education grants. The Foundation receives generous support from individuals, businesses, civic groups, other foundations and government grants.
